CVS shopping trip 5/6/11

I haven't been coupon shopping much lately. I think I'm kind of burnt out. I'm also stocked up on everything. (But food of course, can you ever really be too stocked up on food?)
There were a few things this week that I wanted to get at CVS and I had some Care bucks that were expiring on the 12th. I wanted to do the Pepsico products, buy $15 of selected products get back $5. In this last paper there were some great coupons to go with this. If you didn't get the bigger town paper such as the Chicago Tribune or Des Moine Register you didn't get this insert.
I purchased 1 bag of Tostito chips $2.99, 1 Tostito dip $2.99, 1 Pepsi(was suppose to be Pepsi Max but they didn't have it and he let me substitute.) 2- 4 packs of starbucks Frappuccino $10. I used $1 off Tostito, buy 1 tostito and dip get Pepsi Max free, $2 off Starbucks Frappuccino. After you figure in the $5 Carebucks and the coupons I used, it was $7.98(12.98 if you don't count the $5 Carebucks) for all of these items. I had $11.73 in Carebucks from previous shopping trips I used to pay.
Then I took my $5 Carebucks I got from this transaction and purchased the Pantene Detangler 2/$6.97 and the Colgate Maxfresh $2.77. I used $.75 off Colgate coupon and $3 off 2 pantene coupon. My total after coupons should have been $5.99 and I used the $5 Carebucks. I love going to the store with just a few bucks cash and leaving with all this stuff. Now I have $3.77 to use on my next trip.
So my total out of pocket was $1.95. Now that's with my 11.73 previous Carebucks. Is this too confusing? I just wanted to share (:

Follow me Tuesday 5/3/11

Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Consignments shops are great places to look for things. However sometimes when paired with a sale and a coupon its actually cheaper to buy it new at a store. Lots of stores offer coupons. JCPenny, Younkers, Old Navy, Bed Bath and Beyond almost always have coupons. Sometimes you will find online codes or coupons for other stores such as: Gap, Lane Bryant, New York and Company, Victoria Secret, etc.

JCPenny shopping
$10 off $25 purchase comes out often
$10 off $10 purchase sometimes comes in the mail

I just went to Ulta for the first time and LOVED it!  You can use Manufacturer coupons for all your beauty products (for which I had lots) and also thier store coupons!  I was able to find a store coupon on an app for my phone and often you can pull up coupons on your phone from the web that can be scanned at the store!
At this shop I had $18 in products and spent $6.60 after tax that's just over $1.50 an item!

Also a lot of stores now have txt coupons - if you have unlimited txting sign up for ALL OF THEM!
Hy Vee, Checkers, Target, Old Navy, Chick-Fil-a - just to name a few!
They will not only notify you of upcoming deals but occasionally you get a coupon for the text recievers ONLY "show this txt..." LOVE THAT!

What are some ways you save money on buying clothes? Especially unplanned purchases?

Healthy you 4/28/11

Taken from Reshaping it all by Candace Cameron Bure

How many times have you reached for junk food that wasn't part of your plan because you justified that it would be a one-time thing? "Just this time" is a mind trap, and although we've fallen into that trap several times, we keep telling ourselves the same lie. Recognize the thought, and fight it.

Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

When we resist temptation, it eventually leaves. I promise you that. I mean seriously, you aren't still craving that chocolate bar you rejected last month are you? The temptation eventually left.

Now she isn't saying that these foods are evil. Its just the pull the food has on us. When we are desiring these foods more than we desire God, It becomes a sin.

I'm struggling this week. Feeling kind of in the dumps and this is what makes me want to eat. I'm a chocolate kind of person. Here's a recipe I make that makes me feel less guilty about eating the chocolate. Its about 100 calories a cupcake with a little whip cream on top.

1 box sugar free cake mix ( you can use any flavor but I choose chocolate)
1 can pumpkin
1/2 cup water

mix and put into cupcake pans. bake at 350 for about 20 minutes. (If you have good cupcake pans you don't even have to spray them)
makes 24 cupcakes ( you can also make the smaller cupcakes and have 2 for 100 calories. This is what I like so I feel like I can eat more)

No More Rack

Awesome! I received my Puma watch I posted a few weeks ago here from No More Rack last week. It came quickly and with all my credits it was only $15. I got the credits automatically when No More Rack would just add them to my account from different Holiday promotions they were having. I really didn't even know I had that many credits.

Well, today I got another Puma watch in the mail. I checked my credit card and they only charged me for one watch. So I called them to see what they wanted me to do with this second watch, since it was obviously a mistake. At first they said they would credit me $10 on my No More Rack account for me to ship it back. I didn't want to do that since their items are random and I wasn't sure I would see something again I wanted. So they called me back later and said they have been having a problem with this happening and go ahead and keep the watch! So I have 2 Puma watches I got for $15. I will most likely sell the other one or maybe re-gift it. I'm not sure. But I thought I would share with you guys. How great is that (:

Check out No More Rack for your self here. Its free to sign up. Just check every day for the items they have and maybe you'll find something you want one day.

Follow me Tuesday 4/19/11 'coupons, coupons, coupons!'

In honor of Good Friday and Easter (just as important as Christmas in our house!) we want to leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. We are at Target now, by the time this posts anyway, leaving coupons around the store for you. Our binders are busting at he rims and I hate seeing good coupons go to waste! You don't have to use these coupons at Target. Target is just my favorite shopping place so that's why I decided to leave them there.

Easter Egg Hunt for Couponers!

If you want to leave a fuzzy warm feeling for someone this wonderful Holiday you can leave a few coupons you aren't going to use too! I'm telling you, you guys don't want to miss this. Have fun! (:

Have a great Good Friday and Easter

I'm leaving these coupons at Target in Davenport on Elmore street. I encourage you to leave some of your own coupons in your own towns if you're not from the QC area. (:

Just back from Target. Just wanted to let you guys know the areas I left coupons. I made it to the Make-up, Toothpaste and that whole section of personal care items, Baby, freezer, cleaning, beginning of food section. At the food section my kids were ready to be done. They did great helping me post the coupons at the beginning.  Have fun and Happy Easter!

Healthy you 4/14/11

I signed up for these emails from Made to Crave. This one really hits the spot at my house. Go here to view and sign up for yourself.

I will give you a glimpse into my life. This weekend I was trying to get the house ready for our open on Sunday. We had a lot going on so I didn't get started til after dinner. I was really bitter because I felt like I was the only one trying to get the house sold. I had asked my husband to hang some pictures and fix a leaky faucet. He hadn't done it. Now I was trying to get the house together as everyone else was sitting down watching TV. I decided I wasn't going to do anymore. If no one else cared neither would I. I still hadn't shampooed and there were some spots that really needed it. I went to my room to just read by myself. I had just gotten 'Reshaping It All' by Candace Cameron Bure. So as I'm reading I'm thinking how I just want to go down stairs and eat something. But I keep reading. She talks about just that. How we start to feel emotional about something and then we turn to food instead of God.

No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Galations 5:16

I did apologize the next day to my husband and thankfully no one came to the open. (The floors were really that bad!) Next time I will not dwell in my bitterness!

Hope everyone else is having a good week (:

Homeschool Wednesday 4/13/11

I love the freedom you have homeschooling. Not only can you teach your children above and beyond what the normal schools do, you can have fun doing it too! Today we finally finished our compost! We did a vermicompost back in October(we did Botany for science) and you are supposed to harvest it after 2 months. OOPS. It took us 3 days but we finally did it and started our next one.
This is the done product.

Toby searching for worms! Such a good compost harvester

Malaki and Toby tearing paper strips to make the new compost. Malaki has a fever and he's still helping out. Such a good sport!

This is what the compost looks like before its ready.

Follow me Tuesday 4/12/11

We filmed outside of Walgreens last week. They won't allow us to film inside the store. Make sure you look for the clearance bins when your in the stores. You may have a good coupon to stack with it. When theres Register Rewards try and use the least amount of money you can. So what you want to do, if you're buying more than one thing that has a Register Reward, is buy the one item and then use that Register Reward for the next. So I bought the soda last week. I used the $3 Register Reward to buy my toothpaste. I also had $.75 off coupon so I was only paying $2.24. So in this case I need to make sure I'm buying something else to cover that 'overage'. I could have bought the Purex at $1.99. I decided to get the candy for free. You can save these 'filler items' for Easter baskets.

**note correction on the Purex. You don't need a filler item when you are using a Manufacture coupon and Walgreens coupon. Steph had $1 off manufacture coupon and a Walgreens in ad coupon to make the Purex $.99. She didn't have to purchase anything else at that point.

You can use an In Ad Walgreen's coupon, Walgreen's booklet coupon, and Manufacture coupon all for one item! For example, Walgreen's had Progresso soup on sale one week with an in ad coupon. I used the in ad coupon, a Manufacture coupon and there was a coupon in the Walgreen's booklet and I got the soup for $.50/can.

I hope this video helps a little. It was hard to do outside with the cars and people in the parking lot. I apologize!

No more rack

Are you part of the No More Rack community yet? They send out daily deals for discounted items. I had never actually bought anything until today. I had a few credits built up. When you join you get $10 and on some Holidays they send you credits to buy things. I love Puma products. Today they have a cute Puma watch for only $30 and $2 shipping. Some times they include free shipping too. With my credits and shipping I got the watch for $15. How awesome! My watch cracked a few weeks ago..and it was a crystal, very nice watch. So I haven't been wearing it and I am a big watch person. I love to know what time it is.
Here is a picture of the cute watch! If you just keep an eye after you sign up on the things the have you're bound to find something one day you like! Go here and you should get a $10 credit.

Giveaway/Review Friday

I think I'm going to do away with Giveaway Review Friday. I can't keep asking companies to partner with me for giveaways if I'm only going to have 12 or less people enter the Giveaways. Companies do the giveaways to get their product name out there and when theres only a few people entering the giveaways it doesn't look worth their while. I'm going to do away with it at least through the summer probably. Maybe we will do a few here and there (:

What kinds of things would you want to see in the future for giveaways?

Tape, Tape, Tape

I'm thinking about the little things to put in the kids Easter baskets. We treat Easter just the same as Christmas. Its equally important right! Christmas is the birth of Christ and Easter is the Resurrection of Christ. I already have all the big presents for the kids. I really wish I had gotten the electrical tape at Menards when they had it for free. My kids love tape. My youngest has been putting it all over his arms and face so he 'looks cool'. Now I need to find some tape deals. Why can't I think ahead? That's a key for couponing...you save the most when you think ahead!

Whats everyone else doing for Easter Baskets? Any good ideas?

EXTREME COUPONING "FRAUD" ON TLC

So as I was watching the show this wednesday - and if you were like me and thinking, "This is crazy, I though I was doing really good - how do you get all that free stuff?!"
Well Jill Cataldo, a woman I had a chance to see twice at the Moline Library, has the answers.
She did an evaluation of the shopping trips and explains how the most likely sanario for the deals is FRAUD.

http://www.supercouponing.com/extremecouponingquestions.html

There are several types of coupon fraud and I wanted to list them out so that everyone is infomed we want to coupon the right way - not 'steal' the items which is what you essentially do when using coupons in not thier intended manner:
- DO NOT COPY coupons (from the paper or from the internet)
- Look at quantity and size (4oz MEANS not 1oz travel size) look for "travel size excluded"
- Use the right coupon for the right product

The registers typically have an override button and will accept any coupon even if the item is NOT THERE - it's your responsability as a consumer who enjoys good deals to pay attention to using coupons correctly.  If not.... it could be the end of manufacturers putting out thier coupons at all :( Or stores who ammend thier policies to not accept coupons that are put out.
