Homemade Laundry soap
So yesterday I posted a link to a new friend of mine Luv2BFrugal about making your own Laundry soap. I went to the Hy-vee tonight and bought the things I need to do it. These items are all together in the laundry isle, close to the powder laundry soap. At Hy-vee in Davenport the prices are: Borax $3.38, Washing Soda $2.69, and the Naptha Bar Soap $.99. Which when figured out is about $.70 for 64 loads worth of laundry! I won't get to test it out til at least Monday though. I'll let all of you know. I may even try it for carpet cleaner.
You can go here for more info on why you should try to make your home environment a little healthier. Heres some info on how different cleaners affect you.
This website has some great insight on making your own cleaners. These would be much cheaper than your normal, full of toxin, cleaners! And it doesnt take a lot in ingredients. Let us know if you have a favorite.
Thanks to Steph for the motivation (:

Better than free cereal!
Okay guys! I just got back from getting the Fruity Pebbles deal thats been going around. I bought 5 Fruity Pebbles for $3.95 and got back 2 $4 register rewards at Walgreens. So they paid me $4.05 to buy 5 cereals. I used the Walgreens coupon in the ad I picked up at the front of the store its on the 3rd page I believe. I have heard the other varieties are working also! There were tons of cereal left still. I may go and get more...I did do 2 transactions (:

Healthy you 3/10/11
So I have been thinking alot this week about 'Weight loss Thursday' and I decided I would rather call it 'Healthy you'. I don't want it to be about weight loss but about being healthy. Losing weight isn't really about losing weight or it shouldn't be. If you make it purely about losing weight than in the long run you aren't going to succeed. Eventually you are going to put the weight back on and still be unhealthy. It's all about the choices we are making for our lives. The food we put into our bodies. And I know some of you reading are not trying to lose weight, just trying to make healthy choices.
Colossians 2:8 Don't let anyone lead you astray with empty philosophy and high-sounding non-sense that come from human thinking and from the evil powers of this world. and not from Christ.
With that being said I want to highlight something I read a while ago in a book. If we understand how our bodies work and the way God designed them to react maybe it can be easier to make different food choices. In 'Suzanne Somers Fast &and Easy' she has great insight on our bodies and the way we process different foods. She has a list of 'Funky Foods' that she says you should just take out of your diet (or if you don't like that word you can say eating). These foods raise our insulin level in our bodies. Insulin determines what foods will be stored as fat in our bodies or burned off as energy.
Here's a list of some 'Funky Foods' :
Sugar
Beets Maple Syrup
Carrots Molasses
Corn syrup Sugar
Honey
Starches
Bananas Potatoes
Corn Sweet Potatoes
Pasta (made from White Flour
semolina or white flour) White Rice
Popcorn Winter squashes(Acorn, butternut)
This is a small list of what she says are 'funky foods'. If you take these out of your diet completely you will loss weight very fast. Now the point is to be healthy though. So I would say if you just focus on replacing White with Wheat for now and try to cut out eating a large amount of these items you'll be on the track to a healthy you.

Homeschool Wednesday
Homeschool Messes (copied from the AOP website.)
"Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin" (Proverbs 20:9)?
Do you ever feel like you pick up messes all day? As a homeschooling parent, I quickly learned not to wait until the end of the day to clean the house. Walking through each room throughout the day, I continually organized and put a few things away as my children were studying. If I didn't, I knew I wouldn't have enough energy left to tackle the mountains of laundry, dishes, and clutter before bed.
Keeping our lives clean from the messes of sin also takes a continual effort. In the Old Testament, only the clean were allowed in the temple to worship before the Lord. Today, we must come before the Lord daily and allow Him to cleanse us of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Keeping short accounts with God keeps the messes of sin from building into mountains and destroying our relationship with Him.
Is your spiritual life full of clutter and messes? Are there issues that God has prompted you to clean, such as seeking forgiveness from a family member or disciplining yourself to live a healthier lifestyle?(hmmm...kind of goes with our weight loss Thursday!) Don't wait until tomorrow, next week, or next year to start obeying the Lord. Start today and rediscover the joy, power, and strength that come from living a clean life before the Lord. "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).
I got this weeks 'Homeschool Wed from AOP. Go here if you arent familiar with this company or want more info! We use AOP for Language arts, History, and Bible.
